Walter J. Phillips III, 68, died Thursday, September 26, 2019 at his home.

A lifetime resident of Rhea County, Walter was the son of the late Walter J. and Thelma Daniels Phillips II.  He was a graduate of Rhea Central High School.  Walter worked at La-Z-Boy in Dayton for 30 years before retiring in 2013.  He was a member of the Pentecostal Worship Center in Spring City.  Walter was a devoted Christian and loved God and his church.  He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting.

Walter was preceded in death by his son Larry Phillips, his brothers Robert Phillips and Johnny Phillips and his ex-wife Ellie Godsey Phillips.

Survivors include his daughter Barbara R. Roberts of Spring City , brothers Tommy Phillips and Jimmy Phillips both of Spring City, sister Linda Etherton of Spring City, granddaughter Ashlea Nicole Roberts of Nashville and great grandson Jayden Alexander Roberts-Payne of Dayton.

Funeral services are Sun day, September 29 , 2019 at 3:00 p m in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Grace officiating.  Interment will be in the Spring City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sun day from 1:00 p m to 3:00 p m at Vaughn Funeral Home.
