Verna L. Edwards, 85, died Monday, August 7, 2017 at the Life Care Center of Rhea County.

A longtime resident of Spring City, Verna was the daughter of the late Marvin and Mamie Etherton. She worked for Kayser-Roth Corporation for 19 years, retiring in 1994. Verna was a member of the Spring City Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mayford V. Edwards, brother Frank Etherton and sisters Flossie Winnie, Lona Smith and Jewell Rothwell.

Survivors include her daughters Lois (Donald) Cook and Linda (Dwight) Mathis both of Spring City, brothers Marvin Etherton of Lupton City, Tennessee, Edward Etherton of Auburndale, Florida, and Ronnie Etherton and Archie Etherton both of Pikeville, sister Eva Jean Hamilton of Spring City, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services are Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 4:00 pm in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Smith, Rev. Kyle Hinch and Rev. Paul Forgey officiating. Interment will follow in the Reed Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Vaughn Funeral Home.
