Velma J. Motes, 78 , died Monday, March 25, 2019 at her home .

Born in Grandview, Tennessee, Velma was the daughter of the late Vernon and Willie Mae Edwards Reed.  She was a graduate of Spring City High School. Velma worked for J. C. Penny's for 34 years as a seamstress. After retiring, she continued doing alterations for friends and piecing quilts .  Velma attended the North Hixson Church of God in Hixson, Tennessee.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years Allen Eugene "Gene" Motes of Soddy Daisy, children Pam (Mike) West, Tim Motes and Sandra (Allen) Rogers all of Soddy Daisy and Greta (Shon) Powell of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, grandchildren Derick Dobbs, Drew (Mercee') Dobbs, Jonathan West, Megan Powell and Joseph West and great grandchild Hadley Dobbs.

Funeral services are Wednesday , March 27 , 2019 at 1: 00 p m in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Spring City Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tues day from 6:00 p m to 8:00 p m and Wednesday from 11am until the time of services at Vaughn Funeral Home.
