Thomas H. " Tom " Motes 74, died Friday, March 20, 2020 at his residence. A lifelon g resident of this area, he was born on March 14, 1946 to the late Elmer "Dock" and Alice Marie Philips Motes.  Tom was a graduate of Spring City High Schoo l, afterwards he was drafted in to the U. S. Army and served in the Vietnam Conflict. He was member of the Rhea Springs Lodge #31 0 F . & A.M. and Mercy Baptist Church at Grandview. Tom enjoyed horseback riding, anything involving his grandchildren and playing music.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Beulah Jean Motes and Connie Reynolds and his brothers Johnny and Jackie Motes.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years Janice Jones Motes of Spring City, daughters Lori Motes Garrison of Spring City and Lisa Motes (David) Price of Spring City , brothers Buddy Motes of Ooltewah, Mack (Wilma) Motes o f Eagleville, TN , Fred (Jan Lowry) Motes of Woodbury, TN and his sister Alice Faye (Steve) Christmas o f Hickory, N.C. and his grandchildren T.J. (Kayla Hall) Garrison, Zackary Garrison, Morgan Price, Sydney (Chris) Dodson, Anna Price and Luke Price.

Due to rising health concerns and the safety of the community, there will not be a public visitation or service. A private service will be held Monday March 23, 2020 with military honors. B urial will be in the Spring City Cemetery. A celebration of life, with masonic services is planned for the future when the safety of the public is not at risk.
