Sadie Wilson Smith, 102, of Tampa, Florida, after living a full life, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 26, 2021, with her family by her side.

Born on April 26, 1918, in Opelousas, Louisiana, Sadie Lewis Wilson was the daughter of Walter John Wilson and Maude M. Lewis. Her family included two brothers (John and Charles) and one sister (Alice Evelyn). She was the last surviving sibling.

On August 10, 1946, Sadie married the love of her life, Marion Franklin Smith of Spring City, Tennessee.

They had two sons, Randall and David, and during their marriage lived in Birmingham, Alabama, Richmond, Virginia, Orchard Park, New York, and Tampa, Florida.

Sadie's remarkable life was centered around God and family. She and her husband were affiliated with several Southern Baptist churches throughout their lives, most recently with First Baptist Church in Brandon, Florida. Sadie was very active in promoting mission efforts and enjoyed teaching Sunday school classes. She read, studied and taught the Bible and it was a blueprint for the way she lived her life. Her Christian influence affected everyone she touched, and her ability to connect with people resulted in many lifelong friendships.

After her husband Marion passed away in 1994, Sadie started a new chapter in her life and developed her writing and performing talents. She wrote the script for a story based on Betsy Ross and the creation of the first American flag. Giving an energetic live performance, Sadie transformed into Betsy Ross with her period costume and props. She began by performing for local chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution, but her itinerary quickly spread to include churches, schools and holiday events.

She never advertised or asked for money but would gladly accept invitations to perform all over. One ofB her most memorable experiences was performing the Betsy Ross story for a reunion of her late husband's naval shipmates in Panama City, Florida.

Sadie was also inspired to write poetry and stories about a variety of things that touched her soul. Her faith, family and friendships were at the heart of many pieces she created. She especially enjoyed sending personal poems to honor events in the lives of her many friends. She even sent humorous poems to her medical professionals to make sure they never forgot Sweet Sadie! Over her lifetime, she created hundreds of poems and stories that endure as part of her legacy.

Survivors include her two sons, Randall (Robin) Smith and David (Irene) Smith, both of Tampa; grandson Michael (Crissy) Smith and great‐grandchildren Caleb, Eadie and Tobey of Orlando, Florida; and granddaughter Nicole (Giles Davies) Smith of Tampa, Florida. Sadie will also be forever remembered by her extended family and dear friends.

A private graveside service for the family will be held April 3 in Spring City, Tennessee.  Memorial donations in memory of Sadie may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.
