Rev. James Everett Powers age 92 of Spring City, went to be with our Lord on September 26, 2026 at his residence. He was the son of the late Robert Lee and Gertie McDaniels Powers. Rev. Powers was a 1954 graduate of Spring City High; where he played football. His employment history included The Old Dominion Box Factory, TVA, DuPont and the Chattanooga Millwright Local #74. He was a beef cattle farmer from 1960-2021.

Rev. Powers began his service to God around 1960. He was honored to have been the pastor of Texas Grove Baptist Church, Bogel’s Chapel Baptist Church, High Point Baptist Church, Yellow Creek Baptist Church. Old Washington Baptist Church, St. Clair Baptist Church, Clear Creek Baptist Church and Friendship Baptist Church. Rev. Powers gained many friends and performed many marriages and funerals. He was a lifetime member of the Rhea Springs Lodge #310 F. &A.M. He enjoyed a lifetime of Bluegrass Gospel music; both playing and building musical instruments, which included guitars, mandolins (which he played mostly) the banjo, the slap bass and the dulcimer.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Mildred V. Walker Powers, his maternal grandparents Lee and Clemmie McDaniels, his paternal grandparents Lonzo Dallas and Lillie Pearl Clark Powers and his siblings Stanley Cunningham, Jean Waldo and Sue Smith.

Survivors include his children Duwana Powers, Diana Winfree, Connie (David) Edwards, Sharon (Jim) Lewis, Karen McCurdy and James David (Angie) Powers, his brother Wilson Cunningham, grandchildren include Jody Keener, Stephanie (Steve) Winstead, Rachael (Jeremy) Barnes, Amanda (Zack) Davis, Devon Powers and Jessica Powers and step granddaughter Lindzee (Justin) Matlin, his great grandchildren are Bradley Parks, Zackery Barnes, Kaityn Barnes, Peyton Davis, Lakelyn Davis, Emma Powers and Bailey Powers and his great great grandchild is Jace Parks.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 29. 2026 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Rusty Revis officiating. The family will receive friends before services at the funeral home from 12 to 2:00pm. Masonic graveside services will follow in the Smith Wilkey Cemetery.
