Phillip C. Carriger Sr. , 74, died Sun day, March 19 , 2017 at his home .

Born in Elizabethton, Tennessee , Phillip was the son of the late John Ray and Pauline Nave Carriger.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War .   Phillip was a lead mechanic with Delta Airlines and retired after 30 years of service.  He and his wife, Janice, moved to the Spring City community 19 years ago.  Phillip was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spring City.  He was also a member of the Dayton Lodge #512, the Alhambra Shrine Temple in Chattanooga and the American Legion Post #203 in Spring City.  Phillip loved to hunt, fish, work on hotrods and loved history.

He was preceded in dea th by his brother Jerry Carriger, mother-in-law Mary Alice Lowe, brothers-in-law Larry Mills and D. R. Taylor and nephew Walter Hensley Jr.

Phillip is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Lowe Carriger of Spring City, children Lisa Carriger of Riverdale, Georgia and Phillip C. (Kim) Carriger Jr. of Newnan, Georgia, sister Charlotte Taylor of Knoxville, sisters-in-law Brenda (Walt) Hensley Sr. of Kingston and Pat Mills of Hixson, five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.  Phillip has two grandsons that are presently serving in the Armed Forces.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Dr. William Henry officiating.  The famil y will receive friends Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.  Burial of Phillip's cremains will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers and to help crippled children , the family request s memorials be made to the Alhambra Shrine r Transportation Fund in care of Alhambra Shriners, 1000 Alhambra Drive, Chattanooga, TN  37421.
