Paul Houston Smith, 80, of Jacksonville, Florida and formerly of Spring City died Sunday, April 2, 2017 at his home.
Born in Lupton City, Tennessee and raised in Spring City, Paul was the son of the late Rector William and Hazel Hill Smith. He moved to Avon, Ohio in the 1950's to marry and raise his family. Paul worked 31 years as a member of the Operating Engineers Local 18 in Cleveland, Ohio. He retired to Jacksonville, Florida and attended the Resurrection Catholic Church there. Paul was an active gardener and NASCAR fan all his life. He loved to camp and travel with his wife of 56 year, Mariann, and his dog and best friend "Doc". Paul was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Paul is survived by his wife Mariann Metz Smith of Jacksonville, his three grown sons William Smith of Tuson, Arizona, Robert Smith of Coldwater, Michigan and David Smith of Jacksonville, sisters Betty Burgess of North Ridge, Ohio and Peggy Peters of Loraine, Ohio, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Father Sam Sturm officiating. Interment will follow in the Add Smith Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
