Marion Joyce Thurman Hampton 85, passed into glory on October 4, 2020 at home with her family.

Born on June 2, 1935, Joyce was a lifetime resident of Rhea County and a member of Texas Grove Baptist Church.  She was the daughter of the late James Garfield Thurman and Maggie (Byrd) Thurman.

Joyce loved playing golf, tending her flowers, her home, her little dog Molly, and the love of her life, Earl.   She and Earl have loved each othe r for over seventy years.  In high school, she was the 1952 Homecoming Queen escorted by the Captain of the football team and her sweetheart/husband, Earl Hampton.  She was an excellent basketball player in high school as well. She always enjoyed watching her boys and grandchildren play ball.  Joyce never sat still.  She worked at Burlington, Sherwood, and later managed the Big Apple Market all the while maintaining her position as matriarch of the family.  Her grandchildren describe her as selfless and gen erous; she always greeted you with joy when you went to visit her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Robert Lynn Hampton, her sister Lucille Thurman Wilson, brothers John Carol, Muriel, and Billy Ray Thurman.

She is survived by her husband , Earl, sons Jim (Deb) Hampton, Donnie (Vivian) Hampton, grandchildren Jimmy (Eva) Hampton, Cricket (Scott) Newby, Jenna Hampton, and T.J. (Cindy) Hampton, great-grandchildren Celie Patterson, Landon Hampton, Dalton Hampton, Wyatt Hampton, Maysa Hampton, and Creek Hampton; sisters Dorothy Holloway, Wanda (Norman) Kincannon, and brother Earl (Kay) Thurman and sister-in law Martha (Ron) Toney, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 2:00 at Texas Grove B aptist Church with Rev.  Norman Huskey o ffi ciating. Interment will be in the Mount Sulphur Cemetery. T he family will receive friends Wednesday prior to the service from 12:00-2:00 pm at Texas Grove Baptist Church.
