James "Butch" Tharpe, 67 of Grandview died on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Rhea Medical Center in Dayton.

Born on March 23, 1954, Butch w as a lifetime resident of Rhea County.  He was a graduate of Rhea Central High School.  Butch was a retired heavy equipment operator and worked with various companies.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and collecting knives.  Butch was a member of the Evensville United Methodist Church in Evensville, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bruce Oliver and Grace Houston Tharpe, his longtime companion Peggy Lee Cunningham and his daughter Sarah Amanda Tharpe.

Survivors include his children Nathan Adam Tharpe and Tiffany Brooke King both of Dayton, his brother Jimmy (Mary) Tharpe of Knoxville, his sister Linda (Clyde) Alexander of Dayton and his three grandchildren.

There will be no visitation.  Graveside services in Stebbins Cemetery will be private.
