Obituary

Gladys King Kimbrough, 98, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on April 13, after a long illness.

Gladys was born on August 29, 1924 to Deherman (D.H.) and Ada King in Oliver Springs, Tennessee. After graduating from Spring City High School in 1942, Gladys went on to study English at the University of Tennessee. In 1946, Gladys met Ralph Kimbrough, Sr. at the University of Tennessee. They married in the same year. She then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1947.

After graduating with a degree in English, Gladys taught at Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. She later became a homemaker and assisted her husband, Ralph Kimbrough, Sr. with his publications. Gladys Kimbrough and Ralph Kimbrough, Sr. went on to have one child, Ralph Kimbrough, Jr.

Gladys always enjoyed reading. She was most interested in English and French literature, ancient history, philosophy, and politics. She could read literature in French. She was an avid news watcher and kept up with current events in the political and financial sectors.

Gladys was predeceased by her parents, Deherman and Ada King, her brother, Herman King, and her sister, Reba Hendren. Gladys is survived by her son, Ralph (Nancy) Kimbrough, Jr., granddaughter, Rachel. Kimbrough, and grandson, Andrew (Kate) Kimbrough.

A small memorial service was held at Magnolia Springs Senior Living . A graveside service will take place at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Spring City Cemeter y where she will be interred next to her husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, an organization Gladys felt strongly about.
