Obituary

Gary died peacefully on November 16 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Vidma and Gertrude Drinkard, and sister, Ernestine Drinkard Peacock.   He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary; son David (Betsy) and grandsons Grayson and Cooper, all of Katy , Texas; son Robert (Anissa Samilpa) and grandsons Liam and Garrett, all of Harlingen, Texas; nieces Karen Peacock of Katy, Texas, and Brenda Peacock Allen of Loxley, Alabama.

Gary was born and raised in Fulton, Alabama.  He graduated from Clarke County High School in Grove Hill, Alabama, then received his B.S. and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Virginia.  After retiring from Shell Oil Company in Houston, Texas after a 27-year career, he found his dream place in Spring City, Tennessee.  He enjoyed his retirement years sitting on his porch gazing at his magnificent view of Watts Bar Lake.

Gary was an active member of the Rhea County Historical Society and the Republican Party.  Prior to moving to Tennessee, he was a former president of the Harris County Texas Historical Society, and was interested in Texas history.  He loved his cats and enjoyed reading, his friends, playing bridge and the outdoors; especially while on his tractor.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
