Elizabeth "Betty" J. Bar nett passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the age of 93.

She was born on June 19, 1926 to John and Elizabeth DeJonge of Fair Lawn, NJ.  She married Wilfred "Bill" Whiteley in 1946 and moved from New Jersey to Spring City in 1976.  Bill p assed away in 1978 and she later married Ruel G. Barnett of Spring City .

Betty spent her life in service to others.  With her h usband , Bill, she raised 22 foster children over a 20 year period.  When her own children were in school, she served in several officer positions in the PTA and was the den mother for the local Cub Scout troop. She always found time to help others and when she left New Jersey, the town gave her a plaque for all her volunteer work. She was a devote Christian and member of the Rockwood Church of Christ, working in the church "pantry" and "closet" well into her 80's.  Betty loved crafts, quilting, crocheting and Danish needlepoint.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Whiteley , husband, Ruel Barnett, s on, John F. Whiteley , and f oster son, Peter Whatmore .

Betty is survived by her son, David ( Diane ) Whiteley of Montgomery, Texas , her daughter, Sieglinde (Richard) Whiteley of Signal Mountain, Tennesee , her special friend, Tom Crow, grandchildren Ryan Whiteley, Meredith Hesselein, Amanda Stinnett, Gretchen Conner, Rhiannon Carringer , Gabriel Edge, and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Thurs day, August 8 , 2019 at 2pm in the chapel of V aughn Funeral Home with the Brother Kendall Bear officiating.  Interment will be in the Spring City Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends Thurs day from 12:00 p m to 2:00 p m at Vaughn Funeral Home.
