Dwight A. Mathis, 68, died Friday, January 5, 2018 at his home.

A lifetime resident of Spring City, Dwight was the son of the late Roy Leonard and Ella Thurman Mathis. He was a graduate of Spring City High School. Dwight served in the U. S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post #203. He was a pipefitter and was a member of Local #43 Pipefitters Union. Dwight retired as the maintenance supervisor with the Spring City Public Works Department. He was a big sports fan. Dwight coached Little League and the Red Dogs and loved UT football. He was also the "voice of the Bulldogs". Dwight was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Linda Campbell and Gail Haynes.

Survivors include his wife Linda Edwards Mathis of Spring City, children Dana (Kasey) Decker of Hixson, Randy (Jamie) Mathis and Jason Mathis both of Spring City, brothers Royce Mathis of Spring City and Tom Mathis of Crossville, sister Pat (Nolan) Brown of Spring City, grandchildren Cody Olmedo, Skylar Mathis, Tucker Mathis and McKinley "Gracie" Mathis and dogs Gidget, Twinkle and Chance.

Funeral services are Monday, January 8, 2018 at 5:00 pm in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. John Eldridge officiating. Interment with military honors is Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Spring City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Vaughn Funeral Home.
