Dorothy E. "Dot" Harrison, age 76, died Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Spring City Care and Rehabilitation Center.
A lifetime resident of Rhea County, Dot was the daughter of the late Perry Wayne and Mary Leota Smith Boofer. She was a graduate of Rhea Central High School. Dot was a teacher for the Rhea County Department of Education and retired in 2003 after teaching cosmetology for 28 years. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Tennessee Education Association and the Rhea County Education Association. She loved sports and h elped with Spring City Red Dogs football as well as Little League baseball. Dot was the cheerleader coach for the Rhea County Golden Eagles. She volunteered at the Spring City Care Center and was named to the "Hall of Fame" before she became a resident there. Dot did a lot of crafts and also taught Tai Chi at the Spring City Care Center . She was a member of the Firs t Baptist Church in Spring City. Dot struggled with MS, but continued to help others.
Dot was preceded in death by her sister Lillian Gunter and niece Sharon Carter .
Survivors include her husband James "Jimmy" W. Harrison Jr. of Spring City, sons James "Jimmy" W. Harrison III of Dayton and Jeremy W. (Laura) Harrison of Flushing, Michigan, sister Elsie Harris of Spring City, brothers Tommy (Joyce) Boofer of Spring City and Bobby (Linda) Boofer of Evensville, grandson Jacob W. Harrison of Flushing, Michigan , special nieces and great nieces Charlo tte Swafford, Patty Milliron, Jill Davis, Courtney Millir on, Gabi Messer and Layna Davis, nephew s Alex Milliron and Justin Boofer and several other nieces and nephews .
Funeral services are Sun day, January 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald and Rev. Bobby Schafer and Rev. Brian Price officiating. Interment will follow in the Spring City Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Satur day from 6:00 p m to 8:00 pm at Vaughn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spring City Care Center Craft Fund c/o Spring City Care and Rehabilitation Center, 331 Hinch Street, Spring City, TN 37381.
