Donald R. "Punk" Simmons, 69, died Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
A longtime resident of Ten Mile, Punk was the son of the late Odom and Lillian Armanda Pendergrass Simmons. He worked for the Department of Energy Oak Ridge Facilities for 24 years before retiring in 2001. Punk was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Ten Mile. He was active in his church and drove the church bus for years. Punk enjoyed sports, especially basketball and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn E. Simmons of Ten Mile, children Allen (Tonya) Simmons of Ten Mile and Tanya (Shawn) Samuels of Atlanta, Georgia, brothers Dan (Linda) Simmons of Ten Mile, Eugene Simmons of Dayton, Shorty (Connie) Simmons, Dwight (Kay) Simmons and Dewitt Simmons all of Spring City, sisters Beulah O'Daniel Grubb of Athens, Carolyn (Carl) Brady of Dayton and Donna (Barba) Hicks of Graysville, grandchildren Jesse Simmons, Brooke Samuels and Carter Samuels and special niece Britteny Ray of Spring City.
Funeral services are Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis Porter officiating. The body will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Vaughn Funeral Home.
