Decia Cranfield, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on August 13, 1937, she lived a full life marked by hard work, family, and an immeasurable love for the people around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Newt and Ida Etherton Roberts; all eleven of her siblings; her beloved husband of 46 years, Buford Cranfield; and her two sons, Ronald Thompson and Johnny Ray Thompson.

She leaves behind her son, Lynn Cranfield; grandchildren Chris Thompson, Craig Thompson, Brian Thompson, and Bridget Hughes; seven great-grandchildren; and a slew of nieces and nephews who will forever carry memories of her love and strong personality.

Throughout her life, she was never afraid of hard work. She worked at Oster Corporation, worked at the Silk Mill, spent three years working alongside her daughter-in-law in medical records, and later worked as a custodian at Spring City Elementary before retiring. But retirement never really slowed her down. She was always busy, always finding something to do, and always making the most out of life.

She was a woman who loved with her whole heart. Her greatest concern was always how she could help, care for, and provide for the people she loved. She had a fiery personality and was never afraid to stand her ground when needed. She was a strong woman who knew what she believed and was always willing to speak her mind.

She was an amazing mother to her three sons and a treasured grandmother. Her love for her family could be seen in the countless ways she cared for them. She loved to can, and she was known as an incredible cook. She loved preparing big meals and having her family gathered around the table. Few things were more exciting than getting the call that a big pot of her famous chicken and dumplings was ready.

She loved the simple things in life, too. She enjoyed reading her magazines and the newspaper and always made sure she knew what was happening in the world. She loved going to yard sales, searching for good deals, and coming home with her latest treasures.

Perhaps one of the things that brought her the most joy was simply sitting down and talking on the phone with the people she loved. She treasured those conversations and the connection she had with family and friends near and far.

Her great-grandchildren held a particularly special place in her heart. She loved when they came to visit and never failed to send them home with full bellies and arms loaded down with popsicles and snacks.

She will be remembered for her strength, her fiery spirit, her generous heart, her cooking, her laughter, her determination, and most of all, the way she loved her family. The spaces she leaves behind will be deeply felt, but so will the countless memories she created throughout her 89 years.

Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and everyone fortunate enough to have known and loved her.

Funeral services for Decia will be Friday September 25, 2026 at 2PM in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12PM until the time of the service. Interment will follow inSpring City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be; Jeremy Sutton, Danny Daniels, Matt Coulter, Adam Ervin, Corey Smith, and Tommy Halcomb.
