On Saturday, October 12, 2019, Curtis Monday, loving husband and father of six children, passed away at the age of 89.  Curtis was born on August 3, 1930, in Cumberland County, TN, to James Gaither and Althea Katherine (Hayes) Monday. He served in the Korean War, worked at the Tennessee Valley Authority (Paducah and Bowling Green, KY), and then attended and graduated from Clear Creek Baptist School (Pineville, KY).  During his ministerial career, he served as a church planter for the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ for over 35 years.

On October 3, 1953, he married Jacquelyn Lou Atkinson. They raised four sons - David, Jim, Mike, and John - and two daughters - Tricia and Becca.

Curtis had a passion for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  He also loved to practice carpentry as evidenced by projects, such as barns, decks, and house remodeling.  Another great interest was music, especially the church hymns and choir music, as he either participated as song leader or choir member in various church services.  He was known for his heart for the Lord Jesus, his compassionate prayers for family and friends, and his appetite for Western novels.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, two brothers, and two grandchildren.  He is survived by his wife, Jackie, his six children along with their spouses, seventeen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, together with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Monday, October 14, 2019, at the Grandview Baptist Church, Grandview, TN, with the service following at 12:00 PM with Revs. Herman Fox and Randy Schmittendorf presiding.  In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be sent to the Grandview Baptist Church in support of the Samaritan's Purse ministry filling Christmas boxes for children living in impoverished countries.
