Carol Carter Price age 89 of Spring City, Tennessee died on Friday, October 6, 2023 at her residence.
She was born on December 20, 1933 to the late Richard A. and Teresa Taylor Sharpe. Carol was raised in Cleveland, TN and was a graduate of St. Mary's Boarding School in Sewanee, Tennessee. Carol attended the University of Georgia and graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She worked for several years in New Orleans, but returned to Chattanooga to work for I.C.I. Americas. Carol was active in the Republican Party. There, she met and later married the late State Representative Bill Carter. She and Bill moved to Spring City in 1979 to better serve his district. Carol was a member and past president of the Spring City Woman's Club. She stayed active in politics after Bill's death in 1984 and went on to become the Mayor of Spring City. Carol met and married the late James H. Price. Carol's love for gardening, led her to become a part of the Spring City Garden Club. She also loved to play bridge and was a member of several local groups of players. An avid sports fan, Carol loved watching and attending the University of Tennessee football games. She also loved watching the Lady Vols Basketball team and enjoyed the Atlanta Braves. Carol loved to read and had been involved with the Spring City Library in various aspects. She was a member of the Spring City Methodist Church.
Carol was also preceded in death by her first husband Rep. Bill Carter, and her second husband James Price who died in 2008.
Survivors include her brother Richard A. "Dick" (Carol) Sharpe of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; her niece Kristin Sharpe Kelley of Boise, Idaho; her nephew Richard (Wendy) Sharpe of Rosenberg, Texas; and her four step children Cheryl James, Terry Price, Vicki Baron and Linda Cranfield.
Carol was buried in a private service on Monday, October 16, 2023 next to her first husband Bill Carter in the Spring City Cemetery. There was no visitation.
