Alice Lorene Moffett Porter peacefully went home to be with her savior Jesus Christ on January 11, 2023. She was 96. Born in Campbell County, TN Lorene was the oldest of 9 children born September 18, 1926 to the late Monroe and Ruby Moffett. The family moved to Rhea County about 1934 utilizing a mule and wagon. Also known as Rene, she graduated from Spring City High School and Carson Newman College. Miss Lorene taught a split 3 rd – 5 th class for Rhea County Schools before s he became the bride of Garland Robert Porter December 18, 1948 after his return from service in the Navy during WWII . At Wolf Creek Baptist Church , she sang solos, in trios and quartets and the choir, taught Sunday School, worked with the youth and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. Lorene was Wolf Creek's first local Vacation Bible School director. She also served as VBS director in several chu rches in East Tennessee and North Alabama as her family moved due to her husbands' work with TVA. Outside of church Lorene loved watching birds in her back yard as she worked in her vegetable garden. She enjoyed singing and was an avid recipe collector with an impressive collection of over 60 organized recipe boxes.
Lorene is preceded in death by her parents - Monroe and Ruby Moffett, her husband - Garland Porter, daughter - Rebeca Jane Porter 'Little Becky', sibling and siblings-in-law Sara (Earl) Hudson, Ed d Moffett, Glenn (June) Moffett, Taft Moffett, ( James Clarke, John Cochran, Ken neth Pendleton) and Boyd Moffett along with several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include daughter Susan Porter (Tim) Jones of Evensville, Tennessee; siblings and siblings-in-law Sue Moffett, Maxine Moffett, Imogene Pendleton, Addie (Paul) Tallent of Spring City, Tennessee , Kenny (Linda) Moffett of Cleveland, Tennessee; g randchildren - Alisha (Sam) Owen, Robert (Leanne) Jones ; great grandchildr en Gavin, Natalie, and Victoria; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. at Wolf Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Forgey officiating. Interment will follow in Porter-Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from1:00 P . M . to 3:00 P . M . at the church.
